Case Study
Designer: Simon Thomas
Customer: Gerry Holmes
When Gerry Holmes wanted to bring the kitchen in his traditional Accrington farmhouse up to date with a quirky twist he called upon the Kitchen Design Centre team to take up the challenge after they were recommended by a friend.
The project was particularly tricky due to the fact his whole house was undergoing renovation meaning the Kitchen Design Centre team had to work alongside other contractors in order to complete the job.
Gerry was very impressed with the service he received: “The team from the Kitchen Design Centre worked very well alongside other contractors that were fitting tiles and laying the flooring. Timing was crucial on this task.”

Gerry added: “I had a very clear picture in my head of the type of design I wanted, trying to describe this without the specialist knowledge seemed easy, the team knew exactly what I was looking for.
“I wanted the style of the kitchen to be in keeping with the fabric of the building so I worked very closely with the designer and he helped me throughout the whole process.”
Creating the perfect kitchen and still being sympathetic to the style of the old farmhouse meant this project was a specialist job. The combination of exposed stone and oak resulted in the worktops and cupboards being tweaked on the job to ensure perfection.
The large family farmhouse kitchen boasts all the traditional features such as an Aga framed by a large mantle surround, a Belfast sink and a central island.
Gerry said: “The central island is a great feature in the kitchen and is perfect for dinner parties and entertaining.”
A traditional dresser feature was designed to suit the farmhouse style with the added benefit of a wall mounted LCD TV. All the latest appliances including combination ovens, steam ovens and wine coolers were also integrated into the design.
And developing a creative idea to box in and house all electric meters and consumer units with feature larder look units resulted in the creation of extra storage for shoes.
Simon Thomas from the Kitchen Design Centre said “This project was a challenge, the attention to detail both the customer and I expected from all trades involved was surpassed. It was a pleasure to design and project manage.”
Gerry added: “I am delighted with my Kitchen. All my ideas have been executed perfectly and the team at the Kitchen Design Centre could not have been more helpful.”
