Turning an old fashioned ‘U’ shaped kitchen in to a contemporary family space

The other kitchen company was immediately discounted when their designs were so impractical they barely left any space to walk round the kitchen! This contrasted heavily with Kitchen Design Centre: Straight away they found Blackburn Showroom Manager Will Hustler to be on their wavelength, listening to their brief but being clear when he felt an idea wouldn’t work. Danielle wanted an island for example but Will explained how a peninsular would work much better in the space.

Kitchen Design Centre’s project management skills and flexibility also appealed to Danielle and Matt. With a solid wood floor that they wanted to keep throughout the downstairs of the house, they liked the fact that Kitchen Design Centre assisted in keeping and restoring it, not only working the kitchen installation around keeping it, but recommending a specialist tradesperson to expertly restore and re-lay each section of the floor.

When it came to colours, Danielle was adamant she didn’t want white but Will persuaded her that a combination of subtle whites would keep the area light and bright. Cashmere coloured units were chosen to sit against brilliant white ones which provided contrast within the space.

The fantastic range of displays in the Blackburn showroom gave them a great deal of inspiration and they liked Will’s clever ideas, in particular the wood panel he created on the wall and the bespoke dining table he designed to match the kitchen. To add interest and fun to the space Will also incorporated changing coloured lights above the units.

Wanting the very best appliances Danielle selected Neff throughout, loving the product’s capabilities, in particular the induction hob and the Slide and hide oven which she says make the best roast potatoes she’s ever tasted!

In addition to the Neff ovens, Danielle also chose a Neff microwave, warming drawer, and induction hobs. She complemented these with a Neff built in fridge, freezer, integrated dishwasher and washing machine.

“To say our new kitchen has changed the way we live would be an understatement,” says Danielle, “ we haven’t used our lounge for over six months! We spend all our time as a family in the kitchen and I love the fact that it’s the perfect space for entertaining too: at Christmas we had twelve for dinner quite comfortably in this room.”

The family were delighted with the whole Kitchen Design Centre team, from Will down to the fitters and can’t recommend them highly enough.
