If you’re lucky enough to reside in a charming farmhouse or barn conversion, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to your new kitchen. With plenty of space to take advantage of and lots of unique features to enhance, creating a wow-factor farmhouse kitchen is really quite simple.
Many of our traditional kitchens are designed using natural materials. Granite worktops are ideal for luxury farmhouse kitchens and painted wood can look great for your kitchen cupboards. If your budget allows, why not replace your flooring with wooden floorboards too? Stone flooring also works well in farmhouse kitchens.
When deciding on colours for your barn conversion or farmhouse kitchen, it’s best to go natural. For something warm and welcoming, take advantage of natural material like wood. If you’re keen to inject a bit of colour, choose painted wood or enhance your kitchen with colourful accessories. We recommend sticking to neutral colours or country cottage chic colours like duck egg blue.
There are so many ways to enhance your designer kitchen. If you’ve got the space, why not reap the benefits of a central kitchen island? If you’re keen to add a touch of the contemporary look, why not accessorise with industrial-style brass light fixtures? Alternatively, a traditional, farmhouse kitchen sink can be a feature in itself.
Traditional kitchens are best suited to the farmhouse home. While modern features help create that eclectic look, traditional features ensure a timeless finish and a coherent style throughout your home.
Some of the traditional finishes you might like to consider include shaker-style kitchen cabinets, hand-turned door knobs, and natural, hardwearing materials and surfaces. It’s best to stay away from modern materials like Corian and to avoid trends like the handleless cupboard.
At Kitchen Design Centre, we’ve transformed a number of farmhouse kitchens and barn conversions. One of our favourite projects was this old-English style kitchen, created for Mr and Mrs Lockett.
The brand new designer kitchen features a breakfast bar for six, large kitchen island, and country-chic colour palette. We also used natural materials, like oak, and added a Silestone Lyra leather finish to the kitchen island for the ultimate finish.
