Three of 2018’s best modern kitchen design ideas

One of the most fascinating things about kitchen design is that it never stops evolving. Every year brings new trends and ideas for you to incorporate into your kitchen, and we’re passionate about being the people to help you do it! So far in 2018 we’ve seen some fantastic ideas for modern kitchens emerge – sometimes from the minds of our very own designers! Here are the favourites which have captured our own imaginations – have a look through, and see what you think!

Take the edge off with curved worktops and islands

There’s lots to love about our modern designer kitchen for Mr and Mrs Hall, including its stunning range of powerful Neff appliances, and its truly captivating red accents. Another of the kitchen’s most striking aspects, however, is the curved wooden breakfast bar attached to the central kitchen island. It’s a particularly uncommon feature, and creates a fascinating focal point for the whole kitchen. It’s practical, too – an ideal option for smaller kitchens, as it gives you more room to manoeuvre round the space without having to worry about bumping yourself off square worktops.

Lift your kitchen’s look with floating shelves and storage units

Floating midi units are a particular favourite of our designers here at Kitchen Design Centre, and we know exactly how to use them to create a stunning final effect. In this family-centric kitchen, our designer Simon Thomas used wall-mounted floating midi units to enhance the contemporary feel of the space, fulfilling a key requirement for our customers Tracy and Simon.

Floating midi units have an inherently minimalist style, making them a popular choice for modern and contemporary kitchens. Apart from giving the kitchen an undeniable wow factor, they also increase the feeling of space in it too, which can give you valuable breathing room in modern kitchen designs that might otherwise seem too cluttered. Floating shelves and storage units alike are also particularly appealing in open plan kitchens, as they soothe the transition from the living area to the cooking space.

Be more black-and-white with a monochrome kitchen design

Colours can really help you put your own personal stamp on your kitchen – which is something we’re very passionate about here at Kitchen Design Centre! When it comes to colours, you’ve got a huge range of choice – from blue to red to purple – and all this means that it can be easy to overlook simple but striking monochrome styles. Monochrome colour schemes like this one are often underestimated in their ability to give kitchen an air of effortless sophistication – a fantastic complement to modern and contemporary kitchens alike. You’ve got plenty of options when it comes to the various shades involved, too. Darker shades can add a touch of drama to your kitchen, whereas lighter tones can brighten up a space, enhancing any natural light flooding in.

AS SEEN ON GEORGE CLARKE’S BEAUTIFUL BUILDS: FROM DATED LAYOUT TO DREAM ENTERTAINING SPACE

When Katherine and Andrew purchased their property, they always knew a full renovation would follow.

With both the outdated kitchen and untouched garden requiring significant transformation, the project soon became part of Channel 4’s George Clarke’s Beautiful Builds – it was an opportunity they felt perfectly aligned with their vision for the property.

While searching for a local kitchen specialist, Kitchen Design Centre immediately stood out thanks to its long-standing reputation, glowing customer reviews and welcoming showroom experience.

The brief focused on creating a sleek, contemporary kitchen that would feel open, social and highly functional, while complementing the wider architectural renovation of the home.

The finished design delivers a beautifully balanced space that combines clean lines with luxurious detailing.
One of the standout features is the striking worktop design. The waterfall edge peninsula creates a bold focal point within the room, while the continuation of the material across the side panels introduces a seamless, premium aesthetic.

Functionality was equally important throughout the design process, with carefully considered storage solutions and high-quality appliances helping to simplify everyday living. Among Katherine and Andrew’s favourite additions is the Neff oven, praised for both its versatility and pyrolytic self-cleaning function.
The completed result is a sophisticated contemporary space that completely transforms how the home looks, feels, and functions, perfectly reflecting Katherine and Andrew’s original vision from the moment they moved in.
