A couple from Barrowford wanted a new kitchen that was traditional in style but with a contemporary twist. They were blown away with Simon Thomas’ design that was spectacular on both the inside and outside, satisfying their need for a swish looking kitchen with lots of storage, high end appliances – and plenty of clever features.
They researched various kitchen companies but their search stopped after they visited Kitchen Design Centre in Barrowford. They found the showroom to be superb with a wide range of displays and styles and were impressed with Simon’s approach and ideas.
As keen cooks and bakers, appliances were important. They liked the fact that Kitchen Design Centre was a Neff MasterPartner and had a wide range of appliances that could be demonstrated in the showroom.
After a home visit, Simon ascertained that the general layout of their kitchen was ergonomically correct and didn’t need changing; it simply required a new design that was not only more practical but more aesthetically pleasing. He proposed moving and increasing the size of the peninsular and revising the tall unit section to make it more accessible and visually striking.
Throughout the kitchen contrasting colours and textures of satin cashmere doors with nougat oak panels were chosen together with black aluminium frame wall units with black feature glass. Plenty of accessible storage was high up on the couple’s wish list so Simon incorporated a magic corner pull-out and a 360-degree revolving carousel unit.
To create a seamless sleek look, Abalone Corian worktops run right up to the window edges and incorporates a moulded mixta sink and recessed drainer with additional drainer grooves. A clever ‘hidden’ element is a built-in wireless phone charging point in the worktop. A mobile phone can be simply placed on the worktop to be charged, removing the need for any wires or a plug.
Finished Kitchen
A telescopic cooker hood complements the induction hob on the main wall and Simon created a stunning visual focal point with black glass units either side of the hood. As with other elements of the kitchen, the ‘wow’ factor doesn’t stop there. A clever addition includes a central lift up unit which houses a concealed spice rack.
Based on Simon’s recommendations, the couple chose Neff throughout with the exception of the fridge freezer and a Quooker Flex boiling tap. They loved the aCool Siemens fridge freezer on display in the showroom and chose this with its water dispenser and ice maker. As keen cooks, a Neff Slide and Hide Pyrolytic Oven was selected together with a Combi Oven, Plate Warmer, Flex Induction Hob and top specification Neff Dishwasher with time light.
To tie in with the kitchen, Simon also designed the adjoining utility room in the same style and colour palette. The design utilises a compact space and bespoke storage to accommodate their exact requirements and matches the stunning new kitchen perfectly.
The couple are over the moon with their new space:
"We love the kitchen. It’s modern without being too stark. Simon was fantastic from start to finish and we love the ideas he had and the clever elements he incorporated throughout. We can’t recommend Kitchen Design Centre highly enough.

"I’m delighted with how the kitchen has turned out: it’s a timeless classic design that exudes warmth and comfort and the modern accents really add to the space. It was a pleasure working with the clients and helping them achieve a design that’s both practical and stunning. I enjoyed adding the innovative features in the form of the hidden storage areas and the wireless phone charger built into the worktop.Simon Thomas
