After finding their dream house: a classic rural property in need of modernisation and refurbishment in a nearby village, they soon had their heart set on a Kitchen Design Centre kitchen after falling in love with a traditional display in the showroom window. In contrast to their modern, contemporary German home which had a sleek minimalist kitchen, their new house was crying out for a more classic kitchen.
The kitchen they inherited with the house was glossy, dull and grey and too modern. It felt dark and contained, with cold granite worktops and table. Although the design worked, Anne didn’t like how she always had her back to the window and garden when cooking and washing up.
As soon as they met Simon Thomas, Showroom Manager at the Barrowford showroom they felt in safe hands and were delighted that Simon considered the entire space. Although they wanted to just replace the kitchen, Simon explained that knocking a wall down and incorporating their old snug would work far better and give them a space that suited them more.
They were delighted that Simon presented the perfect design and also project managed the whole job in conjunction with Graham from GCL Developments, providing all the tradesmen who were superb.
To Anne’s delight the new design included moving and lowering the window and increasing its size to make the most of the stunning garden and views beyond. Simon also ran the worktop right up to the window. His idea of including a dining table and keeping the snug element of the room enables the couple to watch TV and use the space as a relaxing and entertainment area too.
Anne and Kevin got so much inspiration and ideas from the showroom, including the Velvet Blue colour of the kitchen contrasting with taupe and the ‘pop’ of colour with orange stools. They loved the Marrakesh inspired panels on the showroom display and adopted the exact design in their kitchen on the wall and in the dresser area.
As a keen cook Anne was delighted with the Neff ovens on display in the showroom and opted for self-cleaning ones. She also loves their traditional Quooker tap and Neff dual zone wine cooler. A major plus is the enormous amount of storage space she’s gained, so much space that she’s actually struggling to fill it all! The nature of the storage space is ideal, with lots of clever features and space saving devices including easy access pull-out options.
The end result is a stunning open plan, light, airy kitchen and living area that has transformed their home. The new area not only provides a seamless transition with their outside space but doubles up as both a kitchen and snug living area.
Anne and Kevin say, “we’re delighted with Simon and Kitchen Design Centre. This room has become the heart of our home. We just love it and spend all our time in it. From driving past the showroom and loving the display we are delighted that the ideas have been translated and adapted by Simon for our own home.”

"I loved working with Anne and Kevin on this project. I’m delighted they trusted me when I suggested knocking the wall down to create a larger space. Hearing how much they love the space and how much they use it now is just brilliant. It looks fantastic and has completed their lovely home."Simon Thomas
