When a couple from Cheshire embarked on a large-scale renovation of a bungalow in Hale they reconfigured and extended the space, creating a contemporary open plan living and kitchen area with stunning Crittall doors, a high ceiling and earthy colours and tones.
The kitchen was a major part of the space, so it was important to find the perfect kitchen company who could not only deliver a design-led kitchen but could also handle things from a project management point of view. The designer was important and after meeting Roger Astin at Kitchen Design Centre’s Urmston showroom they knew they had found the right person. Unlike other designers, they liked how Roger considered the whole space, not just the kitchen and how he factored in exactly how the kitchen would work in relation to the rest of the house and how the overall space would flow and feel.
Roger worked with the couple’s architect throughout, considering different design permutations whilst making the most of the fantastic features in the room.
A dark palate was chosen with German Meteor Black Steel cabinets with Black Steel worktops. This industrial look was softened with natural wood and metal products such as the rustic Cognac wood worktop. The couple liked how the kitchen product allowed for intricate features such as the metal channels in the tall units and a bespoke upholstered circular dining booth.
The dining area was much deliberated and Roger took the time looking at various options to ensure that the area would work and not restrict movement on that side of the kitchen. The final solution was for the booth to be cut into the island. Other aspects were carefully considered such as the work surfaces matching the cabinets in colour. The size of the room and clever natural and feature lighting ensured this scheme worked.
Finished Kitchen
Neff appliances were selected and included Slide and Hide Ovens, Venting Induction hob, Compact Oven with integrated Microwave, Fridge Freezer and Dishwasher. A large Blanco Quartz sink with black Quooker flex tap was also chosen to further enhance the industrial look.
The end result is a fantastic space that fulfils the initial brief and gives this home the ‘wow’ factor.
"We’re delighted with Roger and the whole Kitchen Design Centre team. The kitchen is incredible. From the first CAD drawings to the finished product everything has been excellent. Roger was just as interested in the entire space as he was the kitchen and worked with our architects to achieve this amazing end result."
"This project was ideal for us, allowing me to get involved at the very start with the plans and concepts, working with the couple and their architect to achieve a unique space. Feedback from the clients was that they were impressed with not just the kitchen but our ability to help them with additional fitted furniture for the living areas too. We had great fun with this project and the end result is a stunning and unique kitchen space."
