Industrial Scandi Style

Paul and Natalie wanted a shaker style kitchen in navy blue, with their hearts set on a mantle and range cooker for the extension of their stunning Saddleworth home.

After a site survey, Designer John Crosby thought the space would look better with a more modern, handleless kitchen and suggested incorporating raw materials in the form of wood to create the ideal space. Complementing the original features of the room including exposed stone and a gun metal coloured pillar, a graphite grey coloured kitchen was proposed.

The couple initially wanted a real wood lacquered door; a pricey option, so John looked at alternatives and they all agreed a coloured door would not only be more cost effective but look better too.

His contemporary handleless design was a winner and with a large space to work with, he showed the couple how an ‘L’ shaped island would work better than a traditional straight one. To introduce wood, a natural vintage oak effect door was chosen to sit alongside the graphite grey ones and to contrast with the 20mm Ice Zement Cliveden worktop, a wooden breakfast bar was added to the island for casual dining.

As keen cooks, the couple opted for a Neff gas hob and new Neff ovens with Graphite Grey trims. A Neff downdraft extractor completed the suite of ovens and a Neff dishwasher and built-in fridge freezer were also selected.

For their bespoke drinks area on the other side of the kitchen they also chose a Caple drinks fridge in Gunmetal. With open shelving and multiple storage, this separate area makes drinks preparation easy. To finish the suite of appliances a black Quooker Pro3 Fusion square tap with sparkling water option was chosen.

Lighting was given a great deal of consideration and in addition to Sensio furniture lighting, Hacker channel handle lights were incorporated and the open metal wall display units were illuminated to make a feature of them.

The couple are delighted with the kitchen and Kitchen Design Centre “we wanted the perfect kitchen for our extension and Kitchen Design Centre delivered. John was fantastic. He really considered the space and suggested a style that works better than our original idea of a Shaker style would have done. We love the shape of the island and the whole space has been considered, making the space ideal for both everyday family living and entertaining larger groups.”

AS SEEN ON GEORGE CLARKE’S BEAUTIFUL BUILDS: FROM DATED LAYOUT TO DREAM ENTERTAINING SPACE

When Katherine and Andrew purchased their property, they always knew a full renovation would follow.

With both the outdated kitchen and untouched garden requiring significant transformation, the project soon became part of Channel 4’s George Clarke’s Beautiful Builds – it was an opportunity they felt perfectly aligned with their vision for the property.

While searching for a local kitchen specialist, Kitchen Design Centre immediately stood out thanks to its long-standing reputation, glowing customer reviews and welcoming showroom experience.

The brief focused on creating a sleek, contemporary kitchen that would feel open, social and highly functional, while complementing the wider architectural renovation of the home.

The finished design delivers a beautifully balanced space that combines clean lines with luxurious detailing.
One of the standout features is the striking worktop design. The waterfall edge peninsula creates a bold focal point within the room, while the continuation of the material across the side panels introduces a seamless, premium aesthetic.

Functionality was equally important throughout the design process, with carefully considered storage solutions and high-quality appliances helping to simplify everyday living. Among Katherine and Andrew’s favourite additions is the Neff oven, praised for both its versatility and pyrolytic self-cleaning function.
The completed result is a sophisticated contemporary space that completely transforms how the home looks, feels, and functions, perfectly reflecting Katherine and Andrew’s original vision from the moment they moved in.
