A calm, cosy, traditional kitchen for a West Yorkshire Home

When Mr and Mrs Slingsby decided to change the kitchen in their Ilkley home, they went to four different kitchen companies in Ilkley and Harrogate but weren’t impressed with any of them. They felt the sales techniques they employed were rather pushy and didn’t click with the designers. It was a recommendation from their builder that pointed them in Kitchen Design Centre and Maxine Hutchinson’s direction and the rest as they say, is history.

The couple had changed their kitchen several times over the years but were never happy with it, feeling it never worked in the space and the quality wasn’t as they expected. This all changed when they met Maxine at Kitchen Design Centre. Maxine proposed flipping the kitchen completely so that the kitchen and dining area swapped places. Knocking a wall down also created extra space and enabled Maxine to design a separate dining and entertainment area with built in wine fridge.

Mr and Mrs Slingsby were delighted with Maxine’s initial designs and soon let her loose on the entire kitchen. The only brief was to keep the existing range cooker and the couple wanted a double Belfast sink and as much fridge freezer space as possible.

Central to Maxine’s design was a stunning island with quartz worktops that also included a breakfast bar with separate wood surface. In keeping with the traditional nature of the design, Maxine also incorporated a traditional Quooker tap and looked closely at fridge and freezer space. As this was important to the couple, Maxine built in to two tall 70/30 fridge freezers side by side.

It is the individual design elements that really make the kitchen: the feature blue wall above the range that Maxine suggested works perfectly with the pearl grey and taupe colours of the kitchen, making this the perfect, cosy, inviting space the couple were looking for.

Says Mrs Slingsby, “we’re absolutely delighted with the kitchen and spend all our time in here now. Everything went really smoothly despite it being such a big job. We’re so happy with it we’ve told everyone how fabulous Maxine and Kitchen Design Centre are.”

Maxine Hutchinson who designed the kitchen says:

“I was lucky that Mr and Mrs Slingsby gave me free reign when it came to designing the kitchen and really trusted me. I was delighted that they went with all my ideas, especially swapping the whole area around so the cooking part of the kitchen was in an entirely new space. Knocking walls down is always a big step but in this case it has really worked, creating an entertainment area with built in wine cooler and a separate dining area. My aim was to create a calm, cosy, inviting traditional kitchen for this beautiful home and I feel I’ve achieved this.”

AWARD-WINNING KITCHENS FOR AN AWARD-WINNING DEVELOPER

As you may know if you’ve visited any of our showrooms in Manchester, Blackburn, Liverpool or Barrowford, we manage more than 250 kitchen projects each year here at Kitchen Design Centre. Many of these kitchens are for individual customers, but we also specialise in providing exceptional designer kitchens to housebuilders and developers. We have a particularly successful longstanding relationship with Candelisa, a prestigious Yorkshire-based property developer that is (like us) known for the peerless quality of its designs.
The company already has an impressive array of awards on its shelves, and its team have recently managed to secure their latest accolade: the Best High Volume New Housing Development at the prestigious LABC Awards!
In case you need a quick refresher, the LABC Awards are the largest business-to-business awards in the UK’s building control sector, aimed at celebrating and rewarding building projects, and the people behind them. The Best High Volume New Housing Development in question was Candelisa’s project at Countyfields, Embsay. Due to our strong relationship with the company (largely through Simon Thomas, the head of our Barrowford showroom), Kitchen Design Centre was chosen to deliver every kitchen at the Embsay development – and like Candelisa’s team, we’re hugely proud of the results.

Latest case study now live incase you missed it.

With a keen eye for design, Nicole knew the look she wanted and approached a local kitchen company. They came up with a range of designs but although there was nothing wrong with them, the couple felt that they would like an alternative design. They were already dealing with a lot of different companies for other rooms in the house and were reluctant to involve another but Anthony suggested they visited Rowan at Kitchen Design Centre Urmston to see if he could improve the design, and they were absolutely blown away with what he came up with.
