A mixture of Contemporary and traditional Styles

When Dave and Gill embarked on a large-scale renovation of a bungalow near Bury they turned to Kitchen Design Centre and designer Paul Harrington to create their dream space.

The kitchen was central to the overall design and the couple wanted it to form the main part of the large open-plan space. Working from architect’s plans, Paul designed a kitchen based on their love of a showroom display. A perfect mix of handle-less contemporary and modern shaker style was combined and a large island became the main element of the design.

Paul’s CAD design worked with a bold blue statement wall and this gave Gill the idea to follow the bold colour in to the kitchen and change the back wall units from grey to blue. The amount of natural light in the room ensured this worked, creating atmosphere and contrast and an overall homely feel. Without Paul’s suggestion, Gill would never have considered or been bold enough to pick this colour.

Paul adapted the design as the architect’s plans changed. Initially, a peninsular was proposed but when Dave and Gill decided to take more space from the garage and increase the size of the kitchen, Paul adapted the design and introduced a large island instead. To ensure continuity, he then mirrored the breakfast bar wood material in the open shelving behind. Symmetry was key in the design so Paul followed this with the Neff ovens and the handle trim illumination in the island creates the ‘wow’ factor.

A mixture of Contemporary and traditional Styles

The installation was faultless and Dave and Gill were delighted with everything from their initial contact with Paul and their visit to the showroom right through to the fitters who worked seamlessly with their other contractors. Dave loved the renovation project so much he has the bug to do it all again and he wouldn’t hesitate to use Kitchen Design Centre.

Designer Paul Harrington says, “this was fantastic to work on. I literally had a blank canvas and a superb amount of space. Dave and Gill trusted me with the design and when the space increased it was ideal for a large island. Mixing contemporary and traditional styles works so well. I’m delighted with the finished kitchen.”

AS SEEN ON GEORGE CLARKE’S BEAUTIFUL BUILDS: FROM DATED LAYOUT TO DREAM ENTERTAINING SPACE

When Katherine and Andrew purchased their property, they always knew a full renovation would follow.

With both the outdated kitchen and untouched garden requiring significant transformation, the project soon became part of Channel 4’s George Clarke’s Beautiful Builds – it was an opportunity they felt perfectly aligned with their vision for the property.

While searching for a local kitchen specialist, Kitchen Design Centre immediately stood out thanks to its long-standing reputation, glowing customer reviews and welcoming showroom experience.

The brief focused on creating a sleek, contemporary kitchen that would feel open, social and highly functional, while complementing the wider architectural renovation of the home.

The finished design delivers a beautifully balanced space that combines clean lines with luxurious detailing.
One of the standout features is the striking worktop design. The waterfall edge peninsula creates a bold focal point within the room, while the continuation of the material across the side panels introduces a seamless, premium aesthetic.

Functionality was equally important throughout the design process, with carefully considered storage solutions and high-quality appliances helping to simplify everyday living. Among Katherine and Andrew’s favourite additions is the Neff oven, praised for both its versatility and pyrolytic self-cleaning function.
The completed result is a sophisticated contemporary space that completely transforms how the home looks, feels, and functions, perfectly reflecting Katherine and Andrew’s original vision from the moment they moved in.
