A Nordic Style Kitchen with Dark Wood Tones

Anthony and Mel visited several kitchen companies before they chose Kitchen Design Centre. Top of their wish list was an island but every company told them it wasn’t possible with the space they had and presented ‘L’ shaped designs that were basic and uninspiring.

A chance drive past Kitchen Design Centre in Blackburn changed this. Liking the displays in the window they called in and got chatting to designer Lou Roberts who really listened to what they wanted. She took the time to study the layout and came up with a design that included an island – and not a small insignificant one but a large one with a hob, preparation area and seating for four!

Says Anthony, “Lou had real vision and her knowledge was superb. Her design ability was incredible and we were delighted when she found a way to have a large island.”

Mel had seen a Nordic, Scandinavian style kitchen on Kitchen Design Centre’s website, in their customer case study section, and spoke to Lou about the elements she liked. Lou advised on the correct shade of wood to choose and how to pair it with other colours in the kitchen, with Toronto Cognac Vintage Oak contrasting perfectly with laser brilliant cashmere cupboards and Channel handle rails in Matt Black. To complete the look Quartz worktops in Misty Carrera were selected. Throughout the process they really felt that Lou was reassuring and ensured everything selected worked well together.

They also valued her advice with appliances, especially the hob. By selecting the Neff Venting hob they had extraction without a bulky head above, meaning the look was streamlined and neat. In addition, other Neff appliances were chosen including a graphite slide and hide oven and combi microwave, also in granite, a fully integrated dishwasher and a Neff fridge freezer.

To maximise space in the kitchen, Lou included a single bowl sink with no drainer and in keeping with the Nordic theme, a black Quooker pro 3 Flex tap was chosen.

Anthony and Mel were impressed with the fitters and liked the fact Kitchen Design Centre managed the entire process from start to finish, something the other companies they originally approached couldn’t do.

Says Anthony, “Kitchen Design Centre were fantastic from the start, Lou’s designs were on another level and any questions or concerns we had she sorted and reassured us as we moved through the project. We were really grateful for her colour advice and recommendations and love the finished kitchen, especially as we were able to have the island we wanted.”

What Our Designer Says

"It’s great that Anthony and Mel found us after driving past. Distance is no issue and we often work out of area. I loved working on this project because both Mel and Anthony were open to my ideas and really trusted me. It was great to work on a Scandi/Nordic theme with dark colours, contrasting them with light colours in a gloss finish. The finished space looks fantastic."

AWARD-WINNING KITCHENS FOR AN AWARD-WINNING DEVELOPER

As you may know if you’ve visited any of our showrooms in Manchester, Blackburn, Liverpool or Barrowford, we manage more than 250 kitchen projects each year here at Kitchen Design Centre. Many of these kitchens are for individual customers, but we also specialise in providing exceptional designer kitchens to housebuilders and developers. We have a particularly successful longstanding relationship with Candelisa, a prestigious Yorkshire-based property developer that is (like us) known for the peerless quality of its designs.
The company already has an impressive array of awards on its shelves, and its team have recently managed to secure their latest accolade: the Best High Volume New Housing Development at the prestigious LABC Awards!
In case you need a quick refresher, the LABC Awards are the largest business-to-business awards in the UK’s building control sector, aimed at celebrating and rewarding building projects, and the people behind them. The Best High Volume New Housing Development in question was Candelisa’s project at Countyfields, Embsay. Due to our strong relationship with the company (largely through Simon Thomas, the head of our Barrowford showroom), Kitchen Design Centre was chosen to deliver every kitchen at the Embsay development – and like Candelisa’s team, we’re hugely proud of the results.

Latest case study now live incase you missed it.

With a keen eye for design, Nicole knew the look she wanted and approached a local kitchen company. They came up with a range of designs but although there was nothing wrong with them, the couple felt that they would like an alternative design. They were already dealing with a lot of different companies for other rooms in the house and were reluctant to involve another but Anthony suggested they visited Rowan at Kitchen Design Centre Urmston to see if he could improve the design, and they were absolutely blown away with what he came up with.
