Sometimes it feels like there’s never enough space in your kitchen. Figuring out how best to store an endless array of bottles, jars and food items can be a daunting task but, with a little forward planning and a bit of inspiration from us, you can find storage solutions for your kitchen that meet all your needs and look good too!
There’s no limit to how creative you can be with your shelving ideas. Our designers are full of them and always happy to discuss storage solutions and innovative shelving options but here are a few suggestions to get you started.
Corner shelving is great for making the most out of wall space in tight corners or small pantries. Having your shelving extend right into the corner and along the adjacent wall can create a surprising amount of space.
Some kitchens have recesses or alcoves in the walls. These alcoves are often a little too shallow to accommodate a cabinet or unit, but these spaces needn’t be written off as unusable; bespoke shelving can be created to fit your alcove. You can choose the height, depth and number of shelves you need and opt for a wood or paint finish that complements your kitchen.
This gives you maximum freedom to rearrange your kitchen whenever you need to. Opting for shelving units that can be adjusted to different heights eliminates the need to stack items on top or in front of one another, reducing any spillage, breakage or mess.
Adjustable shelving has a neat-and-tidy feel to it, as each shelf is just the right height for its contents. You’ll be able to find your items quickly and easily, but it needn’t be a purely utilitarian option.
You can have your shelves designed to blend seamlessly with the rest of your kitchen; they can be as decorative or as understated at you wish.
This is a great option for smaller kitchens where you’re short of cupboard or pantry space. It’s not necessary to hide your shelves inside cupboards or pantries; you can turn shelving into a decorative feature and tie it in with the rest of your kitchen. Best of all, everything is easy to lay your hands on without having to rummage around in cupboards.
You can have your shelves painted to match your wall colour, or choose a contrasting shade to make them stand out. With exposed storage, you can collect matching containers. Go for jars with matching lids, or ceramic kitchenware in complementary colours. Have fun creating your own unique look. You can change things up whenever you like just by painting your shelves or changing your storage containers.
