After extending the back of their home to create a large open-plan space for their new kitchen, they wanted something contemporary and different from the shaker-style kitchen they had before. They weren’t interested in a gloss finish and instead sought a design that felt classy and timeless.
The couple booked an appointment with Paul Harrington at Kitchen Design Centre’s Housing Units in Failsworth. When they visited the showroom, they were impressed not only by the vast selection and quality of the displays but also by Paul himself. He stood out for his thoughtful approach—he listened to their needs and never pushed them into a decision, which they really appreciated.

Using their architect’s plans, Paul crafted a bold design featuring matte black and natural walnut finishes. He encouraged the couple to trust his vision, explaining that such a large space deserved a strong, confident design with rich, solid colours.
“If someone had told me I’d have a black and walnut kitchen, I’d never have believed them,” says Gemma. “But I absolutely love it and am so glad we went with Paul’s suggestion.”
Paul recommended a matte black laminate worktop for the large island, selecting 25mm Perfect Sense for its sleek finish.
For contrast, the worktop on the opposite sink run was done in Glacier White Corian, paired with a full Corian splashback.
The couple also took Paul’s advice on appliances, opting for Neff, including two Flex Design Single Ovens and a Compact Oven with Microwave.
Paul also guided them on the placement of their wine cooler and helped them choose a Quooker Pro3 Flex Black tap.

"He made us think outside the box, and we love the finished kitchen. His suggestions were absolutely spot on."
"It was a pleasure working with Gemma and Paul. Being involved early with the architect’s plans allowed me to create a bold, striking design that complements the large space. I’m thrilled they trusted my vision, the finished kitchen looks incredible.Paul Harrington

CONTEMPORARY ELEGANCE FOR A PERIOD HOME
When Zee and Adam decided to transform their kitchen, they explored several companies before selecting Kitchen Design Centre in Barrowford.
Contemporary elegance for a period home
It was Simon Thomas, the Showroom Manager, who stood out with his exceptional design expertise and ability to offer creative, tailored solutions.
The couple were particularly impressed by the Barrowford showroom, liking its large size and the variety of stunning displays. They liked the main flagship display and it inspired their final design, as they adopted many features including the large island and Graphite and Taupe colour scheme.
Seeking a modern update to their traditional kitchen, Zee and Adam tasked Simon with reimagining the space while respecting the period property’s original features. To achieve their vision, they decided to remove a wall and merge two rooms, creating a spacious, open-plan kitchen and living area that now spans the length of their home.

A STUNNING CLASSICAL KITCHEN FOR A LUXURY APARTMENT
When Karen and Peter downsized from their farm, they opted for a luxurious apartment in a historic hall in Holmfirth, Yorkshire. For their dream kitchen, they turned to Lauren Couperthwaite at Kitchen Design Centre, Housing Units, Failsworth.
Initially considering a local bespoke kitchen company, Karen found they couldn’t match the extensive product range and expert design skills of Kitchen Design Centre.
The brief was to celebrate the apartment’s grand architectural features—high ceilings, natural light, and intricate coving—while crafting a kitchen that blended seamlessly with the home’s traditional aesthetic. Lauren’s choice of a pale sage green ash-effect eucalyptus finish brought timeless charm, perfectly paired with classic handles.
