Andrew and Wendy had often admired the Kitchen Design Centre showroom in Blackburn, regularly passing by and taking note of the beautiful displays in the windows. So, when it came time to transform their home with a large rear extension, they knew exactly where to start.
Stepping into the Blackburn showroom, they were struck by the sheer breadth of design possibilities. From timeless traditional to sleek and modern, the displays offered inspiration at every turn. Unsure of the direction they wanted to take, they found themselves equally drawn to both the classic and more contemporary styles.
What made the difference, though, was working with Blackburn designer Lou Roberts. From the very first meeting, Andrew and Wendy felt Lou really listened, guiding them through each stage of the design process with clarity, creativity, and patience. “We didn’t know what we wanted at all,” they admitted. “But Lou helped us explore options without ever feeling rushed. She just got it.”

Though they initially leaned towards a classic shaker design, they found themselves repeatedly drawn to the striking walnut kitchen display. Inspired by the warmth and sophistication of the walnut tones, Lou designed a bespoke kitchen that perfectly suited their new open-plan space.
A combination of Comet in black putty concrete, Bali Walnut and black oak was perfectly complemented with a 20mm Yarra Quartz worktop.
The layout is cleverly zoned, with a generous breakfast bar, a media wall, and a dedicated bar area that brings a sense of flow and purpose to each part of the room. It’s a space designed not just for cooking, but for relaxing, entertaining, and everyday living.
Andrew and Wendy were closely involved throughout the process, regularly visiting the showroom to refine the design and finalise details. “Lou was always happy to see us,” they said. “We felt really supported and confident in every decision we made.”
Lou’s guidance extended beyond layout and cabinetry—she also advised on appliances, helping them select a full suite of Neff appliances that deliver both performance and style together with a stylish Quooker Nordic twin taps and a Wine Cooler.
The end result is a kitchen that’s both visually stunning and highly functional—bringing warmth, elegance, and a true sense of purpose to their extended home. “It’s completed the house,” they said. “We absolutely love it.”
It’s a space that has delivered the wow factor—friends and family are constantly impressed, and it was the perfect backdrop for hosting an unforgettable New Year’s Eve party. As Andrew and Wendy put it: “It’s become the heart of the home, and we couldn’t be happier.”

"It’s become the heart of the home, and we couldn’t be happier."
"It was a real pleasure working with Andrew and Wendy on this project. With the extension providing a blank canvas, I had the freedom to create a layout that really flowed and brought purpose to every part of the space. They were drawn to our walnut display in the showroom, so it was exciting to adapt that look to suit their home. The end result has real impact—and definitely delivers the ‘wow’ factor."Lou Roberts

Paulo and Debbie first discovered Kitchen Design Centre back in 2013 when they created their dream kitchen—and they loved it so much that, years later, they returned once more.
12 years ago Debbie and Paolo were lucky to be shown a brand new design from premier German manufacturer Hacker – the Oxford making them the first in the UK to acquire the design!
They fell in love with the Shaker style which blends clean contemporary lines with traditional design.
Choosing two different lacquer colours, cream and cashmere, and two different handle designs for each colour, gives the Benedettos a totally individual kitchen that is unique to them.
This time, it was for a brand-new kitchen, utility room, games room and garage storage area as part of a major renovation to their family home.
Inspired by a stunning display in the Barrowford showroom, Paulo and Debbie teamed up with Barrowford Showroom Manager, Simon Thomas. With over 25 years of experience, Simon was the perfect person to take on their new brief—one that pushed boundaries and called for creativity in a limited space.
Debbie, inspired by Pinterest, envisioned a kitchen with rich walnut tones. Simon brought this to life with a sophisticated, contemporary design that cleverly created the feeling of a large island in a narrow room, proving that great design isn’t about space—it’s about smart solutions. He did this by linking the island to one wall to create the perfect cooking centre with all the focus in to the room.
