New build homes give a designer the chance to showcase their creative skills. There is more freedom for designers to establish their creative flair, with fewer restrictions infringed upon them. This is demonstrated brilliantly in Kitchen Design Centre’s bespoke German kitchen fitted for Mr & Mrs Cowan.
Kitchen Plan
The simplicity of this kitchen lies in the streamlined design created. The room contains a large picture window, which brings the beautiful Yorkshire Dales landscape into the kitchen, enhancing the creative work of the Kitchen Design Centre team.
When Mr & Mrs Cowan first approached designer Simon Thomas, they had their own ideas in mind. However, after many designs were created, and meetings had, they settled on their final design. Mr & Mrs Cowan chose a range of complimentary finishes throughout the kitchen. These included a hi-gloss Sepia Brown door, a Matt Cashmere door as well as a Grey Acacia wood effect door. Corian worktops were also used to continue the streamlined look.
The hob and sink were both situated on the island to maximise worktop space and accentuate the views from the picture window.

Mr & Mrs Cowan asked for easy access storage. To incorporate this, the majority of cupboards were fitted with pullout drawers and pullout larders. This extended to one of the floating feature units also having pullout storage.
Mrs Cowan said: “Simon’s ideas turned out to be fantastic and just what we were looking for. It really had the ‘wow’ factor.”
Designer Simon Thomas said: “Mr and Mrs Cowan wanted something that gelled with the rest of the property. My design is very sharp, clean and compliments the contemporary styling of the property perfectly. Mr Cowan had an excellent eye for detail and I thoroughly enjoyed working with him.”
Cutting-edge appliances from NEFF include a highly efficient combination-oven, along with a second oven, induction hob, integrated fridge/freezer, integrated dishwasher and an integrated waste-management system.
Finished Kitchen
As well as the hi-tech NEFF appliances, Mr & Mrs Cowan also opted for a Quooker tap. This instant water system supplies water at 100°c and replaces the use of a kettle. On Simon’s recommendation, they chose the combi version of the Quooker, which dispenses water at 50-60°c through the sinks mixer tap. Ideal for washing up!
Mrs Cowan told us that she was particularly impressed with her NEFF induction hob. These hobs are quicker to heat the product and cheaper to run than other hobs. This is due to the heat being transferred directly to the pan through an electro-magnetic field, leaving no residual heat. This minimises the risk of burning yourself considerably.
Mrs Cowan added: ” There are so many things that I love about my new kitchen. Anyone planning a new kitchen would be wise to listen to the inspirational designers at Kitchen Design Centre.”

CONTEMPORARY ELEGANCE FOR A PERIOD HOME
When Zee and Adam decided to transform their kitchen, they explored several companies before selecting Kitchen Design Centre in Barrowford.
Contemporary elegance for a period home
It was Simon Thomas, the Showroom Manager, who stood out with his exceptional design expertise and ability to offer creative, tailored solutions.
The couple were particularly impressed by the Barrowford showroom, liking its large size and the variety of stunning displays. They liked the main flagship display and it inspired their final design, as they adopted many features including the large island and Graphite and Taupe colour scheme.
Seeking a modern update to their traditional kitchen, Zee and Adam tasked Simon with reimagining the space while respecting the period property’s original features. To achieve their vision, they decided to remove a wall and merge two rooms, creating a spacious, open-plan kitchen and living area that now spans the length of their home.

A STUNNING CLASSICAL KITCHEN FOR A LUXURY APARTMENT
When Karen and Peter downsized from their farm, they opted for a luxurious apartment in a historic hall in Holmfirth, Yorkshire. For their dream kitchen, they turned to Lauren Couperthwaite at Kitchen Design Centre, Housing Units, Failsworth.
Initially considering a local bespoke kitchen company, Karen found they couldn’t match the extensive product range and expert design skills of Kitchen Design Centre.
The brief was to celebrate the apartment’s grand architectural features—high ceilings, natural light, and intricate coving—while crafting a kitchen that blended seamlessly with the home’s traditional aesthetic. Lauren’s choice of a pale sage green ash-effect eucalyptus finish brought timeless charm, perfectly paired with classic handles.
